Urgent Police Response to Loud Bangs at Edmonton Apartment

BREAKING: A quiet afternoon in Edmonton escalated into chaos as police responded to reports of loud bangs at an apartment building on 121 Street and Jasper Avenue around 4 p.m. today. Witnesses described a heavy police presence that included officers, firefighters, and EMS rushing to the scene, creating an atmosphere of urgency and alarm.
Residents reported hearing at least two loud bangs, initially mistaking them for construction noise. However, the situation quickly turned serious. “At first I thought it was construction because they are having construction here in the building,” said Tristen Auigbelle, a resident on the fifth floor. “But, it was too close for comfort.”
Photos and videos from the scene, shared with CityNews, show an officer on a fire truck ladder directing what appears to be a firearm towards one of the balconies, raising concerns about the nature of the incident. Shortly after the commotion, at least one individual was seen being taken away in handcuffs, while another was transported on a stretcher, although the conditions of those involved remain unknown.
A representative from the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), the police watchdog responsible for investigating officer-involved incidents, was present at the scene, indicating the seriousness of the police intervention. The area has been taped off, and police are conducting an investigation.
CityNews has reached out to law enforcement for further details as this story develops. The situation is unfolding now, and officials are expected to provide updates soon.
As the community seeks answers, residents are left shaken by the sudden escalation of events in what was supposed to be a routine day. Stay tuned for further updates on this urgent situation as we continue to gather information.
