Actor Gianni Paolo, known for his role in the series “Power,” recently discussed his experience starring in the upcoming film “Trust,” which is set to be released in theaters on August 22, 2025. The film features Sophie Turner and Katey Sagal, and revolves around a Hollywood starlet who retreats to a remote cabin after a personal scandal, only to find herself trapped in a brutal game of survival.

The production took place over six weeks in Mexico City, a location that Paolo found refreshing compared to typical American film shoots. He expressed enthusiasm about the experience, stating, “It was so much fun! We had such a good time filming it.” He noted the unique atmosphere created by the local crew, commenting, “It felt like summer camp going to film it for six weeks in a different country. It was amazing.”

Paolo portrays a character named Marcus, who he describes as “totally different than anything I had ever done before.” He appreciated the character’s naivety, saying, “I really enjoyed playing dumb and naïve; perhaps it even resonated with me to play the naïve guy.” His reflections on the character suggest a deeper connection, as he mentioned, “Being naïve was weird because it evoked something out of me, which felt like a form of manipulation.”

The camaraderie between the cast was palpable, particularly with Sagal and Turner. “Katey was so cool! We were actually on the same flight there, so we drove to the hotel together,” he shared. Notably, Sagal is well-known for her role in “Sons of Anarchy,” a series that inspired Paolo to move to Los Angeles to pursue acting. He expressed admiration for her, stating, “Having her there was so cool.”

The chemistry extended to Turner, whom Paolo described as “one of the funniest girls I have ever been around.” He added, “She made me laugh the entire movie and the whole shoot. Both of them were amazing to work with.”

In discussing broader themes from the screenplay, Paolo reflected on his evolving understanding of acting. “I always feel like I learn something when I’m acting, especially playing somebody who is different than me,” he remarked. For him, success is not merely about fame, but rather enjoying life and his craft. “Success means enjoying my life and just having fun,” he noted, recognizing his current ability to support himself through acting.

As an actor navigating the digital age, Paolo reflected on the industry’s transformation. “I feel I was on the cusp of pre-pandemic early streaming,” he explained, recalling how pilot season was once a significant part of the industry. He appreciates the current landscape, stating, “The industry is not shrinking or dying. There is more than ever right now, especially with cell phones and TikTok.”

For aspiring actors, Paolo’s advice comes with a hint of humor: “Don’t do it. No, you really have to love it.” He emphasized the difference between seeking fame and pursuing a genuine passion for acting, saying, “If you want to be famous, make a TikTok account and do makeup or dance over music. If you want to be an actor, it’s a totally different ballgame.”

Looking ahead, Paolo is optimistic about his career and the opportunities that lie ahead. “There is so much more I want to do, I am going to get there, and I am going to do it!” he declared. In anticipation of the film “Trust,” he encouraged audiences to enjoy the experience, describing it as “a 90-minute thrill ride that will keep you at the edge of your seats.” He concluded with an invitation for viewers: “Just go to the theater, have some popcorn, laugh, smile, cry, and cringe because it does have it all.”
