Bombers Secure Thrilling 30-27 Victory Over Redblacks

UPDATE: The Winnipeg Blue Bombers clinched a nail-biting 30-27 victory against the Ottawa Redblacks on Thursday night, overcoming a late-game surge that tied the match. In front of a sellout crowd at Princess Auto Stadium, the Bombers held a commanding 27-10 lead before the Redblacks shocked fans by equalizing with just 52 seconds remaining.
The Bombers appeared to be in control after a strong performance, but the tides turned when Kalil Pimpleton returned a missed 57-yard field goal attempt for a stunning touchdown, leveling the score. However, Zach Collaros, the Bombers’ quarterback, quickly regrouped. With only 18 seconds left, he led the team downfield, setting up kicker Sergio Castillo for a decisive 47-yard walk-off field goal to secure the win.
This victory improves the Bombers’ record to 5-4 for the season, while the Redblacks slip to 3-7. The game marked a crucial turnaround for Winnipeg, who had struggled with four losses in their last five outings.
Earlier in the game, the Bombers managed to build a substantial lead, with Collaros completing 24 of 34 passes for 298 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. His main target was Nic Demski, who recorded six catches for 128 yards.
The match began with a rocky start for the Bombers, as they incurred a 15-yard facemask penalty on their first play. Nevertheless, Collaros quickly rallied the team, connecting with Demski to set up a 53-yard field goal by Castillo, giving Winnipeg an early edge.
The Redblacks, led by former Bomber Dru Brown, struggled to maintain momentum. Brown exited the game early in the third quarter, leaving Dustin Crum to take over. Despite throwing for a touchdown, Crum couldn’t prevent the Bombers from building their lead.
With the game on the line, the Bombers’ defense, featuring rookies Trey Vaval and Cam Allen, stepped up when it mattered most, forcing the Redblacks into a quick two-and-out possession that allowed Collaros to orchestrate the game-winning drive.
The next challenge for the Bombers will be a match against the Montreal Alouettes on October 12, 2023. As the season progresses, fans will be watching closely to see if Winnipeg can build on this thrilling victory and regain consistency in their performance.
This dramatic finish not only highlights the resilience of the Bombers but also serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of the game. With emotions running high, Winnipeg fans are sure to relish this moment as their team gears up for the next battle on the field.
