Pete Davidson Calls Out Media Obsession with His Love Life

Comedian and actor Pete Davidson expressed his frustration over the media’s relentless focus on his personal life during a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club. In a candid conversation with host Charlamagne Tha God, Davidson revealed that he feels “embarrassed” by the attention given to his relationships and what some refer to as his “big d*** energy.”
Reflecting on his past relationship with singer Ariana Grande, Davidson recounted how her playful comments about him, including a now-deleted tweet where she joked about his size, contributed to the media frenzy surrounding his life. He remarked, “I was embarrassed by it because … no one talked about any work I was doing.” Instead, he claimed the narrative was reduced to sensational headlines, saying, “They were just like, ‘Oh, that’s the f*** stick.’ And that hurt so much.”
Davidson, who gained fame as a cast member of Saturday Night Live, noted that while the show benefited from increased viewership due to his high-profile relationships, it created discomfort among his fellow cast members. He stated, “The show as a whole loved how the relationship brought more viewers to the series, but it was annoying for the cast.”
During the interview, Charlamagne challenged Davidson, pointing out the apparent perks of his situation, such as dating high-profile individuals and being perceived as attractive. Davidson responded, “On paper, that sounds great. But it’s embarrassing.” He elaborated on the challenges of navigating fame, particularly in Hollywood, where personal lives often become fodder for public scrutiny.
“It’s Hollywood — everybody f***s everyone. Everyone dates everyone. Why are they focusing on me?” Davidson questioned. He emphasized the double standard in how media treats male and female celebrities, stating, “If that was a girl … there would be a march for it.” He argued that female celebrities do not face the same level of objectification regarding their bodies and personal lives.
Davidson has been open about his struggles with substance abuse and mental health, indicating that the media’s focus on his dating life has been deeply distressing. Earlier in the year, he described the press coverage surrounding his relationships as “pretty humiliating and upsetting.” He explained, “It’s embarrassing because you want people to write about your work. I was one of the youngest ever cast members on SNL, and all that got pushed to the side because of who I was dating.”
The comedian’s dating history includes relationships with notable figures like Kim Kardashian, Kate Beckinsale, and Margaret Qualley. Currently, he is expecting his first child with his girlfriend, model Elsie Hewitt. As Davidson continues to navigate the complexities of fame, he remains vocal about the need for a more respectful dialogue surrounding celebrity relationships.
