Sebastián Muñoz achieved a remarkable feat on October 6, 2023, by carding a 59 during the opening round of the LIV Golf event at The Club at Chatham Hills near Indianapolis. This performance marks only the third sub-60 round in the history of LIV Golf, despite a double-bogey that could have derailed his momentum.

After starting on the par-4 second hole, Muñoz encountered difficulty at the par-4 fifth, where he incurred two penalty strokes, leading to a double-bogey 6. Despite this setback, he showcased exceptional skill by sinking birdies on 13 of his final 14 holes. His round concluded with a short birdie putt on the par-4 first hole, solidifying his position three shots ahead of fellow golfer Dustin Johnson.

Muñoz’s score of 12-under not only highlights his individual performance but also places him among an elite group of players in LIV Golf history. He joins Joaquín Niemann and Bryson DeChambeau as the only competitors to have recorded sub-60 rounds since the league’s inception in 2022. Niemann achieved a score of 59 at Mayakoba in 2024, while DeChambeau set a record with a 58 at Greenbrier in 2023, both also finishing at 12 under.

As of now, Muñoz ranks seventh in the LIV player standings for the current season. The competition is heating up as the individual champion will be determined this week. Notably, Muñoz, along with Jon Rahm and Carlos Ortiz, remains one of the few players in the top ten without a win this season.

The excitement surrounding Muñoz’s performance highlights not only his personal achievements but also the increasing competitiveness of LIV Golf. As players vie for top positions and the coveted title of individual champion, Muñoz’s round serves as a testament to the level of play and drama that the league continues to deliver.
