Canadian actor Robbie Amell is set to reprise his role in the fourth and final season of the sci-fi comedy series “Upload,” premiering on August 25, 2023, on Prime Video. Created by Emmy award-winning screenwriter Greg Daniels, the series transports viewers to a technologically advanced future filled with holographic phones, self-driving vehicles, and the concept of uploading to a virtual afterlife, where only those who can afford it enjoy a resort-like experience.

The upcoming season promises to deliver an intense conclusion, as the synopsis reveals that sentient AI turns malevolent, posing a threat to Lakeview and humanity. As the characters confront greedy executives and lingering mysteries, they must unite one last time to avert disaster.

In an enthusiastic statement about the new season, Amell expressed, “I love Season 4! I think it’s beautiful and I think it’s so hard to stick the landing.” He praised Daniels for his work, stating, “I think people will be sad, I think people will be mad, I think people will be happy and I think people will be satisfied.”

Amell also shared his appreciation for the cast, which includes Andy Allo, Kevin Bigley, Allegra Edwards, Zainab Johnson, and Owen Daniels. Reflecting on his experiences, he remarked, “Allegra is so great and Kevin cracks me up so much; everyone is awesome!” His fondness for the cast and crew is evident as he stated, “I love these people and I’ve loved making this show.”

Transitioning Between Projects

Amell recently completed work on “Code 8: Part II” before diving back into “Upload.” He noted the similarities between the two projects, highlighting the familial bonds formed with the “Upload” team over the years. “It’s all the same crew from Season 1, and if they weren’t on Season 1, they started in Season 2. So, we’ve been working with the same people for so long and they are all fans of the show,” he explained. He found the transition between characters seamless, stating, “Nathan is so like me innately that I just fall right back into it right away.”

His character, Nathan Brown, resonates with Amell, as he views Nathan as a reflection of himself. He elaborated on Nathan’s journey, particularly the exploration of personal growth and redemption throughout the series. “Nathan grapples with whether or not we are our mistakes, and can people change?” Amell explained, noting that by the end of the series, Nathan evolves from a self-centered individual to someone whose primary concern is the happiness of his loved ones.

Looking Ahead

Beyond “Upload,” Amell is focused on his family and upcoming projects. He mentioned being in “Dad Mode,” spending quality time with his son after completing “Send a Scare” under the direction of Josh Trank, known for his work on “Chronicle.” He expressed excitement for future collaborations, stating, “Jeff Chan and I are trying to figure out what our next step is going to be. We’ve got two TV series in the works and three films in the mix.”

When asked about his ideal superpower, Amell lightheartedly answered, “teleportation,” emphasizing the convenience it would bring to his busy life.

Defining success, Amell reflected on his priorities: “I love what I do! I love making new projects and working with new people, but I really do all this to be able to do cool things with my family.” He aspires to create a fulfilling life for his wife, Italia, and their son, emphasizing that peace of mind is a crucial component of his definition of success.

As the premiere of “Upload” Season 4 approaches, Amell has a message for his fans: “Thank you for watching, and I hope you enjoy the final season!”
