Halton Learning Foundation Launches Fundraiser to Equip Students

The Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) has initiated a new fundraising campaign aimed at ensuring students within the Halton District School Board have the necessary tools for academic success as the new school year approaches. This effort comes in response to a record 3,600 requests for basic school supplies during the 2024-25 school year, marking a significant 20 percent increase compared to the previous year.
HLF recognizes that confidence plays a crucial role in a student’s ability to thrive. “We want every student to begin the school year with confidence and the tools they need to thrive,” stated Marc Clare, CEO of HLF. He emphasized the challenges faced by many families in the community, noting that “for at least one in 10 families, the basic costs of returning to school—like backpacks, lunch, or proper shoes—are out of reach.” Clare added that when students are equipped with the essentials, they feel “seen, supported, and ready to succeed.”
Community Invited to Contribute
To support this initiative, Halton residents are encouraged to contribute by visiting GoBack2School.ca. The funds raised will be utilized to provide gift cards to families, allowing them to purchase the specific items that their children need, rather than relying on pre-packed supplies that may not meet individual requirements.
In addition to community donations, HLF is promoting Carrie the Backpack Day, scheduled for September 19. This event aims to engage local businesses and encourage them to take part in the effort to equip students for the school year. HLF’s mascot, Carrie, is set to serve as the ambassador for this initiative, helping to raise awareness and generate support.
Supporting Student Success in Halton
The Halton Learning Foundation remains committed to addressing the needs of students in the area, recognizing that access to educational resources is vital for fostering a positive learning environment. Through community involvement and support, HLF aims to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed.
