Health Canada Issues Urgent Recall of Baby Loungers Over Safety Risks
Health Canada has initiated a recall of various baby nests and loungers due to significant safety concerns. These products, designed for infants, pose risks of smothering, entrapment, or falls, prompting immediate action for consumer safety.
The recall affects a range of portable infant beds, which are often marketed as multifunctional items suitable for sleep, changing, and tummy time. Notable brands included in the recall are: BChic and Chicure baby nests from Chic Baby, FFQRLP Brand Baby Lounger from First Island available on Amazon.ca, Hapden Travel Portable Crib on Walmart.ca Marketplace, and several others from retailers like AliExpress, Moda Kids, and Wayfair.
Parents and guardians who possess any of these products are urged to stop using them immediately. Health Canada has emphasized that no nest or lounger is safe for sleep due to the inherent suffocation risks. Furthermore, infants should never be left unattended in these products. They are not designed to be used inside cribs, cradles, bassinets, playpens, or on soft surfaces such as beds and couches, where the risk of suffocation is greater.
Health Canada advises that even products not listed in the recall should not be used for sleep. The safest environment for an infant is a firm, flat surface where they can sleep alone.
Despite no reported injuries associated with these products in Canada, there have been ongoing concerns regarding baby nests and loungers across North America. From 2021 to 2023, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission documented 45 incidents involving these products, resulting in 29 fatalities. This alarming data underscores the potential dangers posed by these items.
Health Canada is actively sampling and evaluating all baby nests and loungers on the market to assess their safety compliance. Meanwhile, the affected brands have been pulled from the shelves due to failure to meet Canadian safety standards. Consumers are encouraged to regularly check the recall list for updates and to report any incidents involving baby nests or loungers directly to Health Canada.

This recall serves as a critical reminder for parents to prioritize safety and ensure that their infants’ sleeping environments are secure. For ongoing updates, consumers are advised to remain vigilant about product recalls and safety information.
