UPDATE: Sterling kicker Ryan Gebhardt is poised for a record-breaking senior season as the Golden Warriors prepare to kick off their campaign against Metamora this weekend. Coming off a stunning junior year, Gebhardt aims to build on his impressive stats and set new records that could solidify his legacy at the school.

Last season, Gebhardt was a key player for the Golden Warriors, finishing second in team scoring with 59 points. He successfully made 12 of 14 field goals, including a long of 47 yards, and converted 23 of 24 extra points. His remarkable performance earned him a spot on the All-Western Big 6 Conference first team for special teams, highlighting his reliability under pressure.

Gebhardt’s 12 field goals in a season marked a school record, and his career total of 18 field goals also stands unmatched. He tied the record for the most field goals in a single game with three, a feat first accomplished by Raciel Ocampo in 2006. Now, Gebhardt is eyeing the longest field goal record of 49 yards, also held by Ocampo since 2008.

“It feels great to be relied upon by the team,” Gebhardt said. “Getting a few records under my belt feels pretty good.” His confidence stems from years of experience; he has been kicking on varsity since his freshman year and has balanced both soccer and football commitments since eighth grade.

Trained by Chris Nendrick, a former kicker at Northern Illinois University and in the Arena Football League, Gebhardt has honed his skills through rigorous practice. He has also participated in two kicking camps in Iowa and Illinois to gain further exposure and refine his techniques.

As the Golden Warriors prepare for their season opener, the pressure is on Gebhardt to deliver, especially after the team graduated key players, including leading receiver Kaedon Phillips and quarterback Drew Nettleton. However, the team returns a strong roster, including running backs and second-leading receiver Quincy Maas.

“Our team chemistry is really good,” Gebhardt emphasized. “We have a lot of good athletic and fast guys, and a strong lineup of running backs and wide receivers.”

Gebhardt’s personal goals for the season include achieving more touchbacks and further extending his kicking records. The Golden Warriors have reached the playoffs for the last 10 years and are aiming for another successful season, following two years with five wins each.

As excitement builds for the upcoming game against Metamora, all eyes will be on Gebhardt. His journey from a soccer player to a standout football kicker has already inspired many, and fans are eager to see what records he will break this season.

Stay tuned for more updates as the season unfolds, and watch for Gebhardt’s performance in the opening game this weekend!
