UPDATE: A shelter-in-place warning has been issued for the Caledon area in Ontario as police respond to an urgent situation involving potentially armed individuals. Residents and visitors along parts of Highway 9 are advised to stay indoors immediately to ensure their safety.
Authorities from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) announced this critical warning early Saturday morning, urging those in the vicinity of Highway 9 between The Gore Road, Patterson Side Road, Finnerty Street, and Humber Station Road to secure shelter. As this situation develops, police are advising anyone outside of this designated area to avoid traveling there until further notice.
Police have not yet disclosed specific details regarding the ongoing incident that prompted this urgent alert. However, they have provided essential guidelines for the public in the affected region:
– If you are currently outside, seek shelter immediately.
– Ensure your safety by securing yourself inside a building or other safe location.
– If you are inside, remain there and lock all doors and windows.
– Do not engage with or approach any suspicious individuals; instead, call 911 immediately.
– If driving, proceed directly to your destination without making unnecessary stops.
– Upon arrival, enter your location and lock all doors.
The OPP also emphasized the importance of remaining calm and following all directions from officers on the scene. “We recognize the significant emotional impact that receiving a shelter-in-place can cause,” stated an OPP spokesperson. “The OPP is taking every precaution necessary to resolve this situation and asks all members of the public to act to protect their safety while police work to apprehend the individuals.”
As new information becomes available, updates will be shared through official police channels, including social media. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned for further developments as authorities work diligently to resolve this tense situation.
This urgent alert serves as a reminder of the importance of public safety and community vigilance during potential threats. Stay safe and follow all official instructions as the situation unfolds.
