Greater Victoria Teen’s Lamb Auction Raises $336,000 for 4-H

UPDATE: A remarkable auction at the Pacific National Exhibition in Vancouver has just concluded, raising a staggering $336,000 for local 4-H youth projects. Sophie Jolivet, a dedicated member of the Saanich 4-H Lamb Club, captured the spotlight by securing the reserve champion market lamb title with her impressive 131-pound lamb, which fetched an impressive $9.50 per pound from Meadow Valley Meats.

The excitement in the auction ring was palpable as 4-H members showcased their hard work, leading champion hogs, lambs, goats, and steers. The community’s support was overwhelming, with local buyers eagerly raising their paddles to invest in these young entrepreneurs’ futures.

“This auction transformed months of dedication into real opportunities for our 4-H members,” stated Christie Kerr, PNE director of fair operations. “Behind every ribbon is a story of commitment, respect, and care for these animals. We are immensely grateful to all our buyers.”

In total, a remarkable 102 animals were auctioned, including 37 hogs, 26 sheep, 8 goats, and 31 steers. The funds raised will go directly back into future projects, educational opportunities, and leadership training for these passionate youths.

This event not only highlights the skills and dedication of young agriculturalists but also emphasizes the strong community bonds that drive local support. The success of this year’s auction reflects the importance of agriculture and education in the Greater Victoria area, ensuring that these young talents have the resources they need to thrive.
