Geneva’s Playhouse 38 Announces Auditions for Comedic Play
The Geneva Park District’s Playhouse 38 will hold auditions for its upcoming production of the comedy, “The One Act Play That Goes Wrong.” Scheduled for August 28, 2024, the auditions are open to residents aged 18 and older and will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the playhouse, located at 321 Stevens Street, Suite P, Geneva.
Originally written by Henry Lewis, Henry Shields, and Jonathan Sayer, this play centers around the fictional Cornley University Drama Society. The production features their latest performance, “The Murder at Haversham Manor,” which quickly descends into chaos. Audiences can expect a series of comedic mishaps, including an unconscious leading lady and a corpse that refuses to remain still, as the cast struggles to reach the final curtain call.
Directors Carolyn Goldsmith and Alex Simko are enthusiastic about bringing this humorous piece to life. “I’m really excited to be working on a show that has such complex staging,” said Simko. “As someone who loves all things backstage related, I’m thrilled to take on this technical challenge to create something really engaging for audience members.” Goldsmith echoed this sentiment, stating, “We can’t wait to bring you this uproarious homage to the true and utter hilarity of live theatre.”
Participants in the auditions will be required to perform a reading from the script, along with a one- to two-minute monologue. Registration is encouraged and can be completed online at GenevaParks.org using activation code 5211703-01. Walk-ins will also be accepted.
Rehearsals for the production are set to occur on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m.. Performances of “The One Act Play That Goes Wrong” are scheduled for 7 p.m. on October 24, October 25, and November 1, 2024. Additionally, matinee performances will be held at 3 p.m. on October 26 and November 2. Tickets will range from $15 to $20 on the day of the performances, and will go on sale starting September 2, 2024.
Tickets can be purchased at the Sunset Community Center, located at 710 Western Ave., Geneva, or the Stephen Persinger Recreation Center at 3507 Kaneville Road, Geneva, as well as online at GenevaParks.org/Playhouse.
