Fraser Valley’s Walk of Hope Raises Funds for Ovarian Cancer Research

The Fraser Valley Ovarian Cancer Walk of Hope is set to take place on September 7, 2023, in Abbotsford, British Columbia. This annual event, hosted by Ovarian Cancer Canada, aims to raise essential funds for ovarian cancer research and support for those affected by the disease.
Event Details and Activities
Participants will gather at Mill Lake Park, with the opening ceremony and warm-up scheduled for 9:30 a.m., followed by the walk at 10 a.m. Attendees can choose to walk a single lap around the lake, covering a distance of 2.5 kilometres, or complete two laps for a total of 5 kilometres. The event will conclude with closing remarks and prize presentations around 11:30 a.m..
Encouraging a spirit of camaraderie and awareness, participants are invited to wear teal outfits or costumes. Prizes will be awarded for both team and individual spirit, further enhancing the community atmosphere.
Significance of the Walk
This walk is particularly noteworthy as it is the only event in Canada dedicated exclusively to supporting ovarian cancer initiatives. Each year, it coincides with Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, highlighting the urgent need for research and education regarding this often-overlooked disease. Ovarian cancer remains the most fatal cancer affecting women, underscoring the importance of such fundraising efforts.
Since its inception, the Fraser Valley Ovarian Cancer Walk has raised over $34 million, facilitating vital research and support services for individuals living with and at risk of ovarian cancer. These funds directly contribute to improving outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for those affected by this condition.
For those interested in participating, registration is available online. This family-friendly event not only promotes awareness but also fosters a sense of community among participants who share a commitment to combating ovarian cancer.
The Fraser Valley Ovarian Cancer Walk of Hope serves as a reminder of the collective efforts needed to tackle this critical health issue and support the ongoing fight against ovarian cancer.
