Windsor police are appealing to the public for information following a suspicious incident involving two visitors at a residence in the city’s west end on August 22, 2023. At approximately 10:30 a.m., an unidentified man and woman approached a home on the 2400 block of Rankin Avenue, claiming they were interested in renting the property.

The elderly homeowner welcomed the pair inside for coffee, but the situation changed dramatically when a neighbour arrived unexpectedly. Startled by the presence of the neighbour, the suspects quickly exited the home and fled the scene in a blue Ford Edge, which did not have a front licence plate. Fortunately, the homeowner reported that nothing appeared to have been stolen during the visit.

The suspects have been described as a white woman of heavier build with green eyes and blonde hair, and a white man of similar build. In a news release, the Windsor Police Service emphasized the importance of caution, advising residents to refrain from allowing strangers into their homes. “If someone attends your property under suspicious or unclear circumstances, do not let them inside and report the incident to police,” the release stated.

Investigation Continues

The Windsor Police Service is actively investigating the incident and is urging anyone with information to come forward. Individuals who may have witnessed the events or experienced something similar are encouraged to contact the property crimes unit at 519-255-6700, ext. 4350. Additionally, tips can be submitted anonymously through Windsor & Essex County Crime Stoppers by calling 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or visiting their website at catchcrooks.com.

Authorities are particularly focused on gathering any details that could shed light on the identities of the suspects or their intentions during the visit. Public cooperation is considered vital in ensuring community safety and preventing future incidents of this nature.

As the investigation unfolds, the Windsor Police Service continues to remind residents of the importance of vigilance and safety when interacting with unfamiliar individuals. Taking precautions can help protect both personal property and the well-being of community members.
