Urgent: Last Chance to Enjoy Outdoor Pools Before Season Ends

UPDATE: With temperatures soaring this week, Edmontonians are urged to make a splash at the city’s outdoor pools before the season closes! September 1, 2023 marks the final day for public access to Borden, Fred Broadstick, Mill Creek, and Wîhkwêntôwin pools, presenting a last-minute opportunity for families to cool off and enjoy the summer sun.
The popular Queen Elizabeth Pool will remain open slightly longer, offering a mix of public swim, lane swim, and rentals until September 14, 2023. However, after September 1, timed entries will no longer be available, so visitors are encouraged to plan ahead. Depending on weather conditions, rentals may continue beyond the 14th, but the window is closing rapidly.
As of August 25, nearly 80,000 people have visited the city’s five outdoor pools this season, a slight decrease from last year’s nearly 89,000 visitors.
“We are glad Edmonton’s outdoor pools have become a place to gather and cool off during the hot summer months,”
said Shauna Graham, city site coordination and operations supervisor. “Our facilities are community hubs where people can socialize with friends and family or simply relax for the day.”
This week’s sweltering heat makes these pools a vital destination for residents looking to escape the heat. With the summer winding down, this is the last chance to enjoy the outdoor amenities that have become a staple for community engagement.
Don’t miss out on the final days of summer fun! Visit your local pool before they close, and make sure to take advantage of the extended hours at Queen Elizabeth Pool while they last. For families and friends looking to create lasting memories before the season ends, the countdown is on!
Stay tuned for further updates regarding pool operations as the season transitions.
