URGENT UPDATE: Gas prices have surged across the Maritimes overnight, just in time for the Labour Day long weekend. This sudden spike in fuel costs is set to impact travelers and commuters as they prepare for holiday plans.

In Nova Scotia, the price of regular self-serve gasoline jumped by 2.3 cents, bringing the new minimum price to 147.9 cents per litre. Diesel prices also rose by 3.5 cents, now hitting a minimum of 149.0 cents per litre. Notably, in Cape Breton, prices for regular gasoline have reached 149.8 cents per litre, while diesel stands at 151.0 cents per litre.

Meanwhile, on Prince Edward Island, the price for regular self-serve gasoline remains unchanged at 150.2 cents per litre, although diesel has increased by 2.3 cents, now costing 157.3 cents per litre.

In New Brunswick, regular gasoline prices saw a smaller increase of 1.3 cents, with the new maximum price set at 147.9 cents per litre. Diesel prices also rose by 2.5 cents, bringing the maximum to 152.0 cents per litre.

This price hike comes as many Canadians are expected to travel during the holiday weekend, raising concerns over the financial impact on families and individuals planning road trips.
