Owen Sound Baysox Face Crucial Game Against Ivy Rangers
The Owen Sound Baysox missed an opportunity to clinch a spot in the championship series of the North Dufferin Baseball League (NDBL) after failing to secure a decisive win against the Ivy Rangers. Following two home victories, the Baysox traveled to Ivy with hopes of completing a sweep but left with a tie and a loss, bringing them back to Tom Williams Park on September 4, 2023, with their championship hopes still alive.
In Game 3, the Baysox took a commanding lead, but the Ivy Rangers fought back to achieve a dramatic 7-7 tie on the road. This result allowed the Rangers to remain competitive in the series. The following day, the Ivy Rangers capitalized on their momentum, defeating Owen Sound 6-5, forcing the series into a tighter race.
Due to the absence of stadium lights at many NDBL venues, ties are a necessity, making extra innings impossible after sunset. As a result, the series format has shifted to a point system. Teams earn two points for a win and one point each for a tie. Currently, Owen Sound leads the point race with five points from two wins and one tie, while the Ivy Rangers have accumulated three points.
Upcoming Game and Implications
The pivotal Game 5 is set for Labour Day Monday at Tom Williams Park, with the first pitch scheduled for 20:00. A victory or tie for Owen Sound will secure their place in the championship series against the New Lowell Knights. Conversely, if the Ivy Rangers triumph on Monday, the two teams will face off again in a do-or-die Game 6, with details regarding the time and location yet to be finalized.
As the semifinals heat up, the Baysox will look to regain their momentum and secure their spot in the finals. The stakes are high, and the fans are eager to see if Owen Sound can rise to the occasion in front of their home crowd.
