Vancouver Labour Day Weekend: Key Openings and Closures Revealed

UPDATE: As Vancouver gears up for the Labour Day weekend, residents are eager to know what will be open and closed on Monday, September 1, 2025. With summer winding down, this final long weekend presents various opportunities for enjoyment—while some local establishments will be temporarily closed.

EVENTS TO ENJOY: The PNE Fair, a summer highlight, will be open for its last day from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., featuring a closing performance by Rainbow Kitten Surprise at the Pacific Coliseum. Don’t miss out on this vibrant musical finale!

Additionally, cultural attractions will welcome visitors: The Vancouver Art Gallery will operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will continue its summer hours until September 2. Families can enjoy activities at Science World, open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., alongside the Vancouver Aquarium and the Museum of Vancouver, both maintaining the same hours.

For movie enthusiasts, Cineplex and Landmark theatres will be fully operational, ensuring there’s no shortage of entertainment options.

TRANSPORTATION NOTICE: Public transit will operate on a Sunday-Holiday schedule, with buses, SkyTrains, and SeaBuses running regularly. However, the West Coast Express train will not be in service, so plan accordingly.

SHOPPING OPTIONS: Grocery and pharmacy needs can be met as Save-on-Foods will maintain regular hours. BC Liquor stores will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., providing ample opportunity for weekend purchases.

If you’re looking to shop, major malls like Pacific Centre, Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby, and Guildford Mall in Surrey will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Labour Day.

COMMUNITY CENTRES: Most community centres will be open, albeit many with reduced holiday hours. Notably, centres in Champlain Heights, Creekside, Douglas Park, Dunbar, Hastings, Kensington, Marpole – Oakridge, RayCam, Strathcona, Thunderbird, Trout Lake, Vancouver Aquatic Centre, and West Point Grey will be closed.

BANKS AND GOVERNMENT OFFICES: As is customary for public holidays, banks and government offices will remain closed, and there will be no mail delivery on this day.
