Stephanie Kennedy Empowers Neurodivergent Adults to Thrive Now

URGENT UPDATE: Stephanie Kennedy, a former HR professional turned neurodiversity coach, is on a mission to empower neurodivergent adults to navigate their work lives effectively. Just announced, Kennedy’s unique approach blends personal experience with professional guidance, helping individuals with ADHD and autism thrive in today’s demanding work environment.
Kennedy’s journey began after receiving her diagnosis of ADHD at 39 years old and autism at 41 years old. She experienced significant challenges in her career that prompted her to reevaluate her role in human resources. “I started to struggle in a way professionally that I hadn’t before,” she explains. This pivotal moment led her to establish her coaching practice, Navigating Neurodiversity, where she provides tailored strategies for neurodivergent individuals.
The impact of her work is profound. Kennedy uses innovative techniques, like her tattooed checklist on her hand, to assist clients in managing time and tasks. “You’re not going to start to tell time, but you can externalize time,” she emphasizes. Her methods include visual timers and alarms that cater specifically to the needs of those with ADHD and autism.
Kennedy is acutely aware of the emotional toll that societal perceptions can have on neurodivergent individuals. Many face stigma and misunderstanding, leading to trauma that complicates their professional lives. “You’re somehow made to feel like you have chosen this — you’ve chosen to be lazy; you’ve chosen to be disorganized,” she states, highlighting the unjust judgments faced by those with neurodivergent conditions.
In addition to her coaching, Kennedy is interning at Mindful Matters to gain certification as a neurodiversity counselor. Her practice incorporates narrative therapy, allowing clients to re-author their life stories with a neurodivergent perspective. She believes in meeting clients where they are, providing a supportive environment without rigid policies. “If you’re neurodivergent, you may not be able to show up for an appointment on a given day,” she notes, advocating for flexibility in her practice.
Kennedy’s approach focuses on enhancing the strengths of her clients rather than attempting to “fix” them. “I’m helping them use the strengths of their badass brains,” she declares, providing scaffolding and support tailored to individual needs. Her commitment to this philosophy reshapes the narrative around neurodiversity, promoting acceptance and understanding.
With growing awareness of neurodiversity in workplaces, Kennedy’s services are increasingly relevant. She is paving the way for change, helping neurodivergent individuals reclaim their narratives and find success in their professional lives.
As Kennedy continues to expand her influence, her work serves as a beacon of hope for many. The urgency of her mission resonates deeply: neurodivergent adults deserve support that acknowledges their unique challenges and celebrates their strengths.
