Volunteers Gather Pears for Food Bank in Heartwarming Effort
A group of dedicated volunteers recently gathered to glean pears from a tree in an effort to support a local food bank. On a particularly hot day, the volunteers arrived at the home of Sally Stewart to collect ripe Bartlett pears, which would later be distributed to those in need. This initiative highlighted the commitment of the community to combat food insecurity through collaborative efforts.
Community Spirit Shines Bright
Contrary to Sally Stewart‘s expectations of a few strong individuals, the gleaning team consisted of a diverse group. Among them were a mother and daughter duo, four other women—including one remarkable volunteer who is 81 years old—and a senior gentleman. Their combined skills and determination turned what could have been a challenging task into an enjoyable experience.
The volunteers worked efficiently, gathering both ripe and slightly unripe pears, ensuring that nothing went to waste. Sally Stewart expressed her gratitude for the team’s efforts, stating that they made a significant impact during their visit. This was not their first stop of the day, demonstrating their commitment to the cause and the community.
Gratitude for Local Gleaners
The initiative was organized by Sources, a local organization that facilitates these gleaning efforts to support food banks in the area. Their work emphasizes the importance of community involvement in addressing food waste and hunger. With each gleaning event, they not only provide fresh produce to those in need but also foster a sense of community spirit and collaboration.
Sally Stewart extended her heartfelt thanks to both the volunteers and Sources for their dedication. Such initiatives exemplify how collective action can have a meaningful impact on local communities, reminding everyone of the power of generosity and teamwork.
