Astroneer Expands with Megatech: Build Massive Megastructures

Astroneer, the popular exploration and crafting game, is set to receive an exciting expansion titled Astroneer: Megatech. Developed by System Era Softworks, this paid expansion will launch in November and promises to elevate the game’s construction mechanics significantly. Alongside this expansion, players can expect a free update that introduces a new cargo system aimed at enhancing resource management across various bases.
The Megatech expansion will enable players to design and construct enormous megastructures, testing their base building skills with both new and existing technologies. According to System Era Softworks, players will “harness the power of Megatech to take base building and automation to a whole new level.” This addition aims to enrich the gameplay experience, appealing to both seasoned players and newcomers alike.
New Features and Enhancements
The accompanying free update will allow players to establish an interplanetary transport network, facilitating the movement of resources between bases without the need for direct player involvement. This enhancement is expected to be particularly beneficial for those who enjoyed the game’s prior automation features. With the new cargo system, players can focus on exploration and construction, while the logistics are managed seamlessly.
The expansion will also showcase various ambitious megastructures, including a massive greenhouse-like structure with a glass roof, a bulbous building that appears to consume resource canisters, and a large ring platform designed to orbit a moon. Each of these constructions will require substantial resources, further engaging players in the building process.
Future Developments and Collaborations
In addition to the upcoming expansion, System Era Softworks has announced their next project, titled Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions. This new title aims to offer a “multiplayer voyage of discovery,” expanding the Astroneer universe. To support this endeavor, the studio has partnered with Red Kite Games, known for their work on titles like Fall Guys and Two Point Hospital.
For those interested in trying out Astroneer, the game is currently available on Steam, where it is being offered at a discount of 67% until September 8. The expansion and updates promise to deliver fresh content and engaging gameplay for the community, ensuring that players have plenty to look forward to in the coming months.
