Langley Thunder Players Achieve Provincial Recognition in Lacrosse
Three standout players from the Langley Thunder junior A lacrosse team have received significant accolades in the British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League. The league announced its top players for the 2025 season last week, highlighting the achievements of Cody Malawsky, Caleb Khan, and Koji Okuyama.
Cody Malawsky, hailing from Maple Ridge, concluded his junior career on a high note by winning the prestigious John Urban Award as the league’s top graduating player. He also secured a place on the first team all-star roster. Throughout his five seasons with Langley and Coquitlam, Malawsky demonstrated exceptional leadership and skill, finishing the regular season with an impressive tally of 78 goals and 171 points across 46 games. In addition, he excelled during the playoffs, contributing 62 goals and 144 points in 38 contests.
In goal, Caleb Khan distinguished himself by earning a spot on the second team all-star list after a breakout season. Khan recorded a goals against average of 9.37 and an impressive save percentage of .819. With three years of junior eligibility remaining, he is regarded as one of the league’s promising young goaltenders and a crucial element of the Thunder’s future success.
Koji Okuyama, playing as a defense/transition player, was named to the all-rookie all-star team following a remarkable first season. In just 15 games, Okuyama scored nine goals and achieved 13 points, further highlighting the depth of talent emerging from the Thunder organization.
The Thunder organization expressed pride in the accomplishments of all three players. “We’re extremely proud of Cody, Caleb, and Koji for the recognition they’ve earned,” the team stated after the provincial awards were revealed. “Cody has set the standard for what it means to be a Thunder player, while Caleb and Koji represent an exciting future for our program.”
As the Langley Thunder looks to build on this success, the team competes in multiple leagues, including the Western Lacrosse Association, BC Junior A Lacrosse League, and BC Junior Tier 1 Lacrosse League. All home games are held at the Langley Events Centre, fostering a strong local fan base and community support.
The recognition of Malawsky, Khan, and Okuyama not only celebrates individual achievements but also reflects the ongoing commitment to developing talent within the Langley Thunder organization. The future looks bright for the team as they aim to continue their success in the upcoming seasons.
