UPDATE: iBASIS has just confirmed a major acquisition of wholesale voice, mobile, and messaging assets from Telstra International, marking a significant step in its expansion across the Asia-Pacific region. This transaction enhances iBASIS’s global footprint, reinforcing its status as the preferred partner for Tier One domestic carriers.

The Asset Sale and Purchase Agreement (APA) was announced today, solidifying iBASIS’s growth strategy. “We are extremely proud to partner with Telstra. This marks a significant milestone in iBASIS’ ongoing consolidation strategy,” stated Patrick George, CEO of iBASIS. He emphasized that this deal accelerates their growth trajectory and solidifies their position in the global wholesale telecom market.

With this acquisition, iBASIS will gain exclusive rights for international wholesale voice services for Digicel Pacific, covering key territories including Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, and Nauru. The transaction is set to significantly bolster their commercial scale and geographic reach, particularly in Australia and New Zealand, alongside existing operations in Hong Kong and Singapore.

“This long-term partnership with iBASIS offers a strategic opportunity to strengthen our competitive edge globally, ensuring continuity and quality for our international voice customers,” said Roary Stasko, CEO of Telstra International. He expressed confidence in iBASIS’s ability to maintain service quality throughout the transition.

The deal involves the transfer of valuable customer contracts and a skilled international team of professionals, ensuring a seamless transition for existing customers. iBASIS has committed to upholding service quality during the integration process, with existing customer relationships remaining intact.

This acquisition is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close before the end of 2025. As the international wholesale telecom market continues to consolidate, iBASIS is poised to capitalize on this partnership, solidifying its role as a leading independent communications specialist.
