Parents Demand Action as Dangerous School Bus Stop Sparks Outrage

URGENT UPDATE: Parents in Rawdon, N.S., are voicing serious concerns over a newly relocated school bus stop deemed highly dangerous due to treacherous conditions. Just announced, the stop has moved to a sharp, unpaved corner, prompting fears for the safety of children.
Local parent Mieke Eisenhauer described the location as “the most dangerous turn on our road,” highlighting the almost 90-degree angle that has seen numerous vehicles skidding off the road, especially during winter months. “There’s no lighting, no sidewalks, and people fly through,” she added, emphasizing the added threat posed by wild animals.
The previous bus stop, which had served families for years, was abruptly removed, leaving parents and children unprepared for the change. Many were caught off guard after receiving minimal notice about the new location, which is several kilometers away. On the first day of school, a sign stating, “Do not use property/road as a bus stop!” was erected, reflecting growing community discontent.
Parents are not only concerned about the safety of the new stop but also about their children’s eligibility for transportation. Dorothy Lynch expressed frustration, stating she was informed that her son, who has attended local schools from primary through Grade 11, no longer qualified for the bus service because their residence is outside the catchment area. “I spent all morning getting children to school,” she lamented, highlighting the chaos on the first day.
The Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education has yet to provide a spokesperson for media inquiries but stated that they plan to reach out to families to discuss potential solutions. Parents are demanding immediate clarity on whether the bus stop will remain in place this year or if it could be changed again next year.
As the situation develops, parents remain anxious and are calling for urgent action to ensure the safety of their children. “I need this bus stop to get my children to school,” Eisenhauer concluded, underscoring the emotional toll this change is having on families.
This story continues to unfold, and local parents are determined to advocate for their children’s safety in the face of these alarming changes.
