Newark Volleyball Takes Second Place at Manteno Tournament

UPDATE: Newark volleyball achieved a commendable second place finish at the Manteno Earlybird Tournament on October 14, 2023. The Norsemen, boasting a record of 7-1, showcased their skills in pool play, decisively defeating Manteno and Grace Christian.

In their opening matches, Newark dominated Manteno with scores of 25-13 and 25-15, followed by a tight victory over Grace Christian, winning 25-23 and 25-20. However, the championship match saw the Norsemen fall to Sherrard, with scores of 25-18 and 25-22, denying them the title.

Star player Rylie Carlson led the team with an impressive 28 kills, 14 digs, and three aces. Her sister, Zoey Carlson, contributed significantly with 20 kills, five aces, and five blocks. Additionally, Taylor Jeffers recorded 41 assists and 11 digs, while Ella Bromeland delivered 32 assists and 16 digs. Morgen Hergenhahn also played a crucial role with 22 digs.

Both Rylie and Zoey Carlson were honored with selections to the all-tournament team, highlighting their exceptional performance throughout the event.

In other sports news, Yorkville girls flag football team triumphed at the SPC Jamboree, defeating Joliet Central 50-6 and Romeoville 21-12, showcasing their dominance on the field.

In boys golf, Westmont edged out Plano with a score of 159-171 on Friday, as Brandon Ramos led Plano with a low round of 40. Meanwhile, Oswego Co-op continued its winning streak in girls golf, narrowly defeating Plainfield North 172-173, with Alli Wiertel shining with a remarkable 3-under 33.
