Noah Fifita Shines with 5 TDs as Arizona Crushes Weber State 48-3
URGENT UPDATE: In a dazzling display of skill, Noah Fifita threw for 373 yards and five touchdowns, leading the Arizona Wildcats to a commanding 48-3 victory over the Weber State Wildcats after a lengthy weather delay on September 16, 2023.
The game, held in Tucson, Arizona, was halted for over two hours due to lightning, but the delay did little to impede Arizona’s momentum. The Wildcats jumped to a staggering 24-0 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 34-0 by halftime, showcasing their offensive power and defensive prowess with a total of 556 yards gained against Weber State’s mere 184 yards.
Fifita’s performance was nothing short of remarkable. The third-year starter completed his first 14 passes and finished the night with an impressive 17 of 22 completions. His standout receiver, Javin Whatley, caught two touchdown passes, contributing to the Wildcats’ offensive explosion with five receptions for 168 yards.
The scoring onslaught began with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Whatley on Arizona’s opening drive, quickly followed by an 85-yard score on the next play from scrimmage. Additional touchdowns came from Tre Spivey, who caught a 10-yard pass, and Brandon Phelps, who scored on a 13-yard pass before the half concluded.
As the third quarter opened, Ismail Mahdi turned a third-and-22 screen pass into a 27-yard touchdown before Jay’Vion Cole sealed the game with a 27-yard interception return for a touchdown, making the score 48-0.
Arizona’s head coach expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, noting that the passing game was sharpened after last week’s 40-6 win over Hawaii. The Wildcats are now 2-0 and look ahead to a challenging matchup against Kansas State on a short week.
Meanwhile, Weber State, now 0-2, faces its own struggles as they prepare to play at McNeese State next Saturday.
With this dominant win, Arizona has set the tone for the rest of the season, creating buzz among fans and analysts alike. Keep an eye on the Wildcats as they aim to maintain their momentum in the upcoming games.
