US Influencer Faces Deportation After Shocking Crocodile Stunt
URGENT UPDATE: An American influencer, Mike Holston, known as ‘The Real Tarzann’, is under fire and facing potential deportation after posting shocking footage of himself chasing and wrestling two juvenile crocodiles in Australia. The controversial videos, which he shared with his 15 million Instagram followers and 1.2 million YouTube subscribers, have ignited outrage among wildlife experts and local authorities.
On the weekend, Holston filmed himself pursuing a small freshwater crocodile near Cape York, and just days later, he jumped on a young saltwater crocodile. Tommy Hayes, a crocodile expert from the Northern Territory, condemned Holston’s actions as “completely uncalled for” and a “disrespect” to Australian wildlife. He stated, “Chasing down a clearly very frightened animal is disrespectful and clearly done for online clout.”
Hayes emphasized the need for accountability, stating that foreign influencers should face strict penalties for violating wildlife laws, including having their visas canceled. “Australian influencers should be held accountable and dealt with as well,” he added.
The Queensland Environment Department announced it has initiated an investigation into Holston’s actions. A spokesperson confirmed that disturbing freshwater crocodiles is a significant offense in Queensland, with on-the-spot fines reaching up to $2,670. If the case goes to court, penalties could soar to $27,539.
This incident follows a similar backlash earlier this year when another American influencer was criticized for mishandling a baby wombat. Public outcry led to calls for her visa cancellation, although she left Australia voluntarily.
Authorities are concerned that Holston’s massive following may incite copycat behavior among his viewers. Hayes warned that Holston’s limited knowledge of crocodiles could lead to dangerous interactions with wildlife. He stated, “His actions are literally all for the likes and the attention.”
As the investigation unfolds, this incident raises critical questions about the responsibilities of social media influencers and the protection of wildlife in Australia. The consequences of Holston’s actions could set a precedent for how similar cases are handled in the future.
