DeKalb Fire Department Hosts Urgent 9/11 Memorial Ceremony
UPDATE: The DeKalb Fire Department is set to host a significant Patriot Day memorial ceremony on Thursday, September 11, 2023, to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This year’s gathering will take place at the department’s newest fire station, located at 1130 S. Malta Road, DeKalb, marking a poignant shift in location for this annual event.
The ceremony will kick off at 8 a.m. and is open to the public, inviting community members to join in remembrance. Acting Fire Chief Luke Howieson emphasizes the importance of coming together to reflect on the tragic events that unfolded on September 11, 2001, when hijacked planes devastated the World Trade Center in New York City, struck the Pentagon, and crashed in a Pennsylvania field.
This year marks an emotional milestone, as it commemorates 24 years since the attacks that reshaped the nation and the world. The ceremony serves as a crucial reminder of resilience and unity in the face of adversity. Community members are encouraged to attend and partake in honoring the sacrifices made by first responders and innocent civilians alike during one of the darkest days in American history.
As the event approaches, local officials urge residents to arrive early to secure a spot and participate in this important act of remembrance. The ceremony is not only a tribute but also an opportunity for healing and solidarity within the community.
Join the DeKalb Fire Department in honoring those who lost their lives and pay tribute to the heroes who emerged in the aftermath. This ceremony promises to be a moving experience for all attendees, highlighting the enduring impact of that day and the importance of remembrance.
