URGENT UPDATE: An ammonia leak prompted an emergency evacuation at the Jack Setters Arena in Lynnwood, Calgary on Monday evening. The incident unfolded at approximately 7:15 p.m., triggering a swift response from the Calgary Fire Department (CFD).

As patrons and staff evacuated the building in accordance with safety protocols, hazmat crews arrived to address the hazardous situation. Officials confirmed that CFD hazmat teams entered the arena and confirmed an active ammonia leak inside the facility.

Authorities quickly established a safe perimeter, closing off 69 Ave. S.E. in the 2000 block to protect the public as crews worked diligently to mitigate the risk. “Crews monitored the wind and created a safe zone around the structure,” officials stated in a news release.

After isolating the leak, hazmat crews ventilated the arena and coordinated with contractors to ensure the safety of the system for necessary repairs. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and nearby homes and businesses remained unaffected by the incident.

This emergency highlights the importance of safety measures in public venues. The rapid response from emergency services minimized potential harm to the community.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Residents are advised to stay clear of the area while clean-up efforts are underway. Further updates will be provided as crews work to resolve the issue.
