New Wildfire Erupts Near Port Alberni; Status Upgraded to ‘Being Held’
URGENT UPDATE: A new wildfire has ignited east of Port Alberni, near Yellow Creek, and is currently classified as ‘being held’ by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS). The blaze was first reported shortly after 6 p.m. on September 26, 2023, and initially estimated to cover less than one hectare.
In a crucial update just before 10 p.m., BCWS confirmed that the fire’s status was downgraded from ‘out of control’ to ‘being held,’ signifying that firefighting efforts are effectively managing the situation. This latest fire is strategically located between two existing wildfires: the Mt. Underwood Wildfire, which is also marked as ‘being held,’ and the Wesley Ridge Fire near Cameron Lake, currently classified as ‘under control.’
