CHEK’s Jordan Cunningham Rappels Off Victoria Building for Charity
BREAKING: Jordan Cunningham, a reporter with CHEK, took to the skies this morning, September 10, 2025, rappelling off the iconic Manulife building in downtown Victoria. This daring feat is part of the annual Drop Zone fundraiser organized by Easter Seals BC/Yukon, aimed at raising crucial funds for individuals with disabilities.
The event seeks to collect $400,000 across four different Drop Zone events in Victoria, Vancouver, Burnaby, and Kelowna. As of 3 p.m. today, approximately $197,000 has already been raised, signaling strong community support for this vital cause.
“Drop Zone is a fundraiser like no other. There’s really no experience comparable to stepping off a building to raise funds to support people with disabilities,” said Lisa Beck, president and CEO of Easter Seals BC/Yukon. The event encourages participants of all abilities to take on the thrilling challenge, showcasing the community’s commitment to supporting those in need.
Cunningham described his experience on the edge of adventure:
“It was terrifying for the first seven seconds when you’re up on the side of a building like that, they’re just like, ‘just let your heels off a few inches and lean back.’”
His bravery not only contributes to an important cause but also serves as a catalyst for personal growth. “I kind of want to expand my role at CHEK, I want to start doing the windows on the outside of the building,” he added, reflecting on his newfound perspective.
The urgency surrounding this event highlights its significance in the community. With only a few hours left to participate in the fundraising efforts, the call for donations is more pressing than ever.
As the day unfolds, Cunningham’s plunge symbolizes not just a leap from a building but a leap of faith in the community’s spirit. The funds raised will directly support various programs that enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities across the region.
Stay tuned for updates as the event progresses and more donations pour in. The next steps involve continued efforts to meet the ambitious fundraising goal, making each contribution a vital part of the mission.
