Rochelle’s Dylan Manning Shines with 169 Yards in 28-18 Win

UPDATE: Dylan Manning, the standout sophomore running back for the Rochelle Hubs, delivered an impressive performance with 169 rushing yards and two touchdowns during a thrilling 28-18 victory over Chicago King on September 30, 2023. This victory marks the Hubs’ strong start to the season at 2-0 despite the loss of starting quarterback Van Gerber due to injury.
This game showcased Manning’s exceptional skills on the field, reinforcing his role as a pivotal player in Rochelle’s offense. “I love hitting people and making big plays,” Manning stated. His determination is evident as he transitions from cornerback to strong safety this season, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to the team.
Manning’s journey began when he unexpectedly joined the varsity football team as a freshman. He debuted during the Hubs’ third game of the 2023 season against Johnsburg, where he rushed for 102 yards and scored three touchdowns in a commanding 48-0 victory. This early success set the tone for what has become a remarkable football career.
As a freshman, Manning’s contributions helped Rochelle achieve a 7-3 record and secure a playoff appearance against the formidable St. Francis. He ended that season with 726 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, earning a spot on the All-Interstate 8/KRC First Team. His impressive performance did not go unnoticed, as Coach Kyle Kissack praised his intentional development and reliability in both offensive and defensive roles.
Now, as he embarks on his junior season, Manning has already surpassed 2,000 career rushing yards. He attributes his success to the support of his teammates, particularly the offensive line. “They help me achieve my goals,” he noted, acknowledging the increased attention he faces this year as the primary back.
Manning’s family legacy in Rochelle football is profound. He wears the No. 10 jersey, a number that carries significant meaning as it has been worn by his father, Ben, and his brothers, Luke and Caden. “It was awesome to wear the No. 10 for the first time,” he expressed, connecting his achievements to his family’s history.
In addition to his athletic prowess, Manning excels academically with a 3.8 GPA and was honored as an IHSFCA Academic All-State player last season. His aspirations extend beyond high school football, as he aims to play at the collegiate level, inspired by his cousins Garrett, who played at NIU, and Grant, currently at UW-Eau Claire.
As Manning continues to make headlines on the field, he remains focused on self-improvement. “I just want to get bigger and faster,” he said, driven to uphold and surpass his family’s legacy in Rochelle football. Fans will be eager to follow his journey as the season unfolds, with more exciting games on the horizon.
Stay tuned for further updates on Manning and the Rochelle Hubs as they aim for continued success this season.
