American Airlines Launches Nonstop Miami-Bimini Route in February

American Airlines has announced the introduction of a new route connecting Miami International Airport (MIA) to South Bimini Airport (BIM) in the Bahamas, set to commence on February 14, 2024. This initiative will be operated by the 76-seat Embraer E175 jets under the American Eagle regional brand, expanding the airline’s footprint in the Caribbean. The addition of this route marks a significant development as it will provide the only nonstop service from the United States to Bimini.
The flights between Miami and Bimini will operate up to three times a week, specifically on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. American Airlines highlights its extensive operations within the Bahamas, claiming to offer the highest number of flights to various destinations in the region among U.S. carriers.
Details of the New Route
According to scheduling data from Cirium, the Embraer E175 aircraft for this service will be provided by Envoy Air. Bimini is located just 64 miles from Miami, resulting in a short flight time of approximately 60 minutes. The outbound flight, designated as AA4108, is scheduled to leave Miami at 10:05 and arrive in Bimini at 11:05. The return leg will depart Bimini at 11:50 local time.
As a key hub for American Airlines, Miami facilitates connections to over 80 destinations across the United States and Canada. This new route to Bimini is the airline’s seventh destination in the Bahamas, complementing its existing services to Governor’s Harbour and Freeport, where it remains the only U.S. airline operating.
Onboard Experience and Aircraft Layout
The Embraer E175 aircraft, while relatively small, provide a range of seating options to cater to different passenger preferences. The aircraft’s configuration includes:
– **First Class:** 12 seats with a pitch of 36 inches
– **Main Cabin Extra:** 20 seats with a pitch of 34 inches
– **Economy Class:** 44 seats with a pitch of 30 inches
The first class section features a 2-1 seating arrangement, offering wider seats and a more spacious experience compared to economy class, which is laid out in a 2-2 configuration. For those looking for additional comfort without the first class price tag, Main Cabin Extra provides an extra four inches of legroom.
It is important to note that the Embraer E175s used on this route will not feature in-seat power supplies, which is a distinction from similar aircraft operated by other regional airlines.
With this new service, American Airlines aims to attract travelers seeking unique experiences in the Caribbean. Brian Znotins, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at American Airlines, emphasized the importance of offering diverse travel options, stating, “American knows that travelers are looking for unique and varied experiences, and that’s why we’ve added destinations like Bimini to our network.”
The launch of the Miami to Bimini route not only enhances American Airlines’ service offerings but also supports the growing demand for travel to the Bahamas, a popular destination for both leisure and business travelers.
