US Warns Foreigners Against Glorifying Kirk’s Assassination
URGENT UPDATE: The U.S. government is taking a hard stance against foreigners who praise the recent assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. In a statement made just hours ago, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau announced that appropriate actions may be taken against anyone “praising, rationalizing, or making light” of the incident.
Kirk, a prominent ally of Donald Trump and a key figure in mobilizing youth support for the Republican Party, was shot and killed on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, while speaking at a university in Utah. This tragic event has drawn national outrage, with President Trump labeling the act a “heinous assassination.”
In a social media post on platform X, Landau expressed his disgust at the online reactions to Kirk’s death. He stated, “I have been disgusted to see some on social media praising, rationalizing, or making light of the event,” and emphasized that such behavior is unwelcome in the United States.
Landau has directed consular officials to monitor social media comments and indicated that action may be taken against those who glorify violence. As of now, over 2,000 replies have flooded Landau’s post, with users flagging various accounts that they believe should face scrutiny. However, it remains unclear whether any specific visa holders have been identified for potential visa revocations as a result of these flagged comments.
A spokesperson for the State Department reiterated the administration’s commitment to national security, stating, “This Administration does not believe that the United States should grant visas to persons whose presence in our country does not align with U.S. national security interests.” However, details on the process for evaluating flagged accounts were not disclosed.
This incident is part of a broader trend as the Trump administration continues its crackdown on immigration, including enhanced social media vetting and revocations of student visas. As this situation develops, it underscores the heightened tensions surrounding political discourse in the United States and the global implications of violence against political figures.
WHAT’S NEXT: Watch for further announcements from the State Department regarding potential actions against individuals praising Kirk’s assassination. The political atmosphere remains charged, and the international community is closely monitoring the implications of the U.S. response.
