2025 Acura MDX Unveiled: Enhanced Features and Performance

The 2025 Acura MDX has been officially unveiled, showcasing a blend of comfort and performance in a seven-passenger utility vehicle. This latest iteration of Acura’s largest model continues to offer three rows of seating, making it a versatile choice for families and adventurers alike.
Acura’s MDX, which debuted as a three-row SUV nearly 25 years ago, has evolved significantly over the years. The current generation, which arrived in 2022, remains competitive with its spacious interior and robust performance capabilities. In comparison to the smaller Acura RDX, the MDX is over 30 centimetres longer and boasts a 15-centimetre longer wheelbase, enhancing both passenger comfort and cargo capacity. Notably, the MDX can tow up to 5,000 pounds (2,270 kilograms), far surpassing the RDX’s maximum towing capacity of 1,500 pounds (680 kg).
Styling and Interior Upgrades
The 2025 model features several aesthetic updates, including redesigned bumpers, new alloy wheels, and refreshed headlights and taillights. A prominent addition is the new “diamond pentagon” mesh grille, enhancing the SUV’s already appealing exterior. Inside, the MDX introduces a larger floor console, replacing the previous touchpad with a 12.3-inch touchscreen that supports Google built-in, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. This is complemented by a 12.3-inch configurable display for the driver.
While the third-row seating can be somewhat cramped for adults, accessibility has been improved with the option to remove the centre section of the second-row bench. This modification allows for easier entry and exit, creating dual captain’s chairs that slide and fold. The MDX’s standard sound system has been upgraded to include 11 speakers, while the previously optional ELS stereo has been replaced with a Bang and Olufsen sound system featuring up to 31 speakers, enhancing the auditory experience. Additional insulation in the cabin contributes to a quieter ride, making it an ideal choice for long journeys.
Performance and Pricing
The powertrain options for the 2025 MDX remain unchanged, featuring a 3.5-litre V-6 engine that generates 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. For those seeking enhanced performance, the Type S Advance variant is equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-litre V-6 engine, producing 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. Both engine options are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and come standard with all-wheel drive.
Fuel economy ratings for the base V-6 are 12.6 litres per 100 km in urban driving, 9.4 litres on the highway, and a combined rating of 11.2 litres. The Type S model has slightly higher ratings of 13.8/11.2/12.4 litres. The MDX’s pricing begins at $71,700 for the base Tech trim, which includes premium features such as tri-zone climate control, heated front seats with 12-way power adjustment, a panoramic moonroof, and ambient cabin lighting.
Safety features are extensive across all trims, with active safety technologies that include traffic-sign recognition and automatic high-beam headlights. Optional features such as front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and GPS-linked climate control add further convenience.
The top-level Type S Ultra, priced at $91,270, offers unique enhancements including adaptive air suspension, Brembo front brakes, and a sport appearance package with leather and ultra-suede seating. With its additional power and upgraded handling, the Type S Ultra provides a dynamic driving experience that sets it apart from the base V-6 model.
In summary, the 2025 Acura MDX not only retains its reputation for comfort and versatility but also introduces significant enhancements that cater to performance enthusiasts. As a family-friendly utility vehicle, it continues to deliver on the promise of quality and sophistication that Acura is known for.
