Canadian Evan Dunfee Clinches Gold in 35K Race Walk

BREAKING: Canadian athlete Evan Dunfee has won gold in the men’s 35-kilometre race walk at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on September 12, 2025. This thrilling victory marks a significant achievement for Dunfee, who executed a remarkable final push to overtake the competition in the last eight kilometres of the race.
Dunfee completed the race in an impressive time of 2 hours, 28 minutes, and 22 seconds, finishing 33 seconds ahead of runner-up Caio Bonfim from Brazil, who clocked in at 2:28:55. Japanese athlete Hayato Katsuki secured third place with a time of 2:29:16.
This gold medal adds to Dunfee’s already illustrious career, having previously earned bronze in the 50K walk during the 2019 championships and at the Tokyo Olympics, where he made history as Canada’s first-ever Olympic medalist in this event. He also won gold in the 10K walk at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
In contrast, fellow Canadian Olivia Lundman faced a disappointing outcome, failing to finish the women’s 35-kilometre race walk after being disqualified at the eight-kilometre mark. The event was won by Maria Perez of Spain, who finished in 2:29:45.
