URGENT UPDATE: An explosion rocked a bar in the Vallecas neighborhood of Madrid on September 13, 2025, injuring 25 people, with three individuals reported in serious condition. Spanish authorities have confirmed that no additional victims are trapped under the debris, despite initial fears.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, where firefighters were seen clearing debris and assessing the damage. Footage shared by Madrid emergency services on X shows the bar’s ceiling partially collapsed, with bricks and glass scattered across the street. Witness Fernando Sanchez described the chaos, stating, “We were at home and we felt the explosion; we ran out straightaway… it was absolute chaos, people in the middle trying to move cars.”

Authorities confirmed that 25 people received treatment, with two transported to hospitals in serious condition and three others classified as potentially serious. The two serious cases were taken by SAMUR_PC and SUMMA112 to 12 de Octubre and La Paz hospitals, respectively. Sniffer dogs and drones were deployed to assist in the ongoing response efforts.

While initial reports suggested a gas leak may have been the cause of the explosion, Inmaculada Sanz, a security and emergencies official in Madrid, cautioned that it was “too early to venture what may have been the cause.” She assured reporters that all residents of the affected building, which included nine homes, would need to be rehoused for at least several days due to safety concerns.

As the situation unfolds, emergency responders continue to secure the area, with police cordoning off the vicinity to keep residents safe. Fire engines and ambulances surround the site, creating a scene of urgency as authorities manage the aftermath of this tragic incident.

Residents are advised to stay indoors as investigations into the cause of the explosion proceed. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
