Yorkville Tennis Clinches Thrilling Win Over IMSA in Tiebreaker

URGENT UPDATE: In a nail-biting finish, the Yorkville girls’ tennis team triumphed over IMSA with a final score of 4-3 on Monday, securing the victory in a dramatic tiebreaker. The decisive match saw Yorkville’s No. 3 doubles pair, Christy Silva and Niah Kallan, clinch the win with a tight score of 6-3, 4-6, 11-9, delivering a thrilling conclusion to the dual meet.
This victory matters immensely not only for the team’s morale but also for their standings in the season. Earlier in the meet, Yorkville’s Sofia Perez and Macie Jones dominated at No. 4 doubles with a score of 6-2, 6-1, while the duo of Callie Ferko and Alana Hogan won at No. 2 doubles, also with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 scoreline. Adding to the excitement, Analiese Garretson secured victory at No. 2 singles with a score of 6-1, 6-4.
In other sports developments, the Yorkville flag football team delivered a commanding performance against Rosary, winning 35-7. Star player Brooke Ekwinski threw touchdown passes to Kayla Kersting and Annabel West, while Hayden Hodges scored on a punt return and intercepted a Rosary pass. Grace Niles also shone with two interceptions, showcasing Yorkville’s defensive prowess.
In girls’ volleyball, Parkview Christian outlasted Leland with a close score of 25-21, 29-27. Key player Lillie Bernhard led the charge with nine kills, while Kendra Mersman contributed with 14 digs. Meanwhile, Sandwich defeated Woodstock with scores of 25-18, 13-25, 25-18. Kayden Corneils and Liza Goodbred were standout performers for Sandwich.
In boys’ soccer, Oswego East battled Neuqua Valley to a 3-3 tie at the Plainfield Classic, a result that allowed them to secure their pool victory. Richmond-Burton delivered a crushing blow to Sandwich, winning 8-0, despite Dillan Gauer making an impressive 13 saves in goal.
On the golf course, in a closely contested match, Harvard bested Plano with a score of 172-178. Plano’s Camden Winkler achieved medalist honors by shooting a 40. In girls’ golf, Plainfield North defeated Yorkville 167-202, with Maggie Forgue leading the Foxes with a score of 48.
