Comedian Ryan Lachance Hosts Charity Poker Tournament in White Rock

Comedian Ryan Lachance is set to host a ‘Wild West Charity Poker Tournament’ on March 9, 2024, at the Royal Canadian Legion, Crescent Branch 240 in White Rock, Canada. This lively event aims to support two important causes: Lachance’s ambition to launch an accessible comedy tour across Western Canada and the ongoing efforts of the Legion, which holds personal significance for him.
Living with quad-spastic cerebral palsy, Lachance uses a motorized chair and travels with full-time caregivers. His goal is to inspire audiences in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia’s Okanagan region through comedy. “This isn’t just a tour – it’s proof that anything is possible with community support and a sense of humour. I’m ready to hit the road and share both,” he stated.
Charity Tournament Details
The upcoming poker tournament requires a buy-in of $100 and is open to players of all skill levels. Registration starts at noon, with the tournament kicking off at 13:00. Attendees can also enjoy food and beverages available for purchase during the event.
One of the unique aspects of the tournament is a ‘bounty’ on Lachance’s head, offering a special prize package for any player who successfully eliminates him from the game. Lachance humorously downplays his poker skills, saying, “I’m good in my circle – that doesn’t say much,” while maintaining confidence in his abilities. “I like to think of myself as a pretty good poker player,” he added.
Previously, Lachance organized tournaments that helped raise funds for a van that facilitates his travel to various shows and a portable ramp for easier access to venues. “The van is amazing – I can go so many other places and have an ability to do shows in Alberta and Saskatchewan,” he remarked. These initiatives highlight the importance of community support in making his comedy accessible to wider audiences.
A Passion for Poker
Lachance has a long-standing passion for playing cards. He recalls, “I like to say I was born with a pack of cards in my hands.” Growing up in Alberta, he frequently played cards with friends and family, experiences that he believes have contributed to his current poker skills. “Being a disabled kid growing up, I played a lot of cards with friends and family. All those games with granny must have made a difference!”
In addition to his comedic talent, Lachance has a knack for mathematics, which aids him in assessing probabilities during the game. “I’m also a maths guy, so I like figuring the odds,” he explained. His experience in comedy further enhances his ability to read people and situations at the poker table. “When you make other players laugh, it’s easier to play against them. It tends to disarm them a little!”
For those interested in participating, additional information and pre-booking can be obtained by emailing [email protected] or visiting www.ryanlachance.com. This charity event not only promises an entertaining day of poker but also highlights the power of community in supporting those with disabilities in the arts.
