A salmonella outbreak associated with salami and cacciatore has resulted in 90 confirmed cases across Canada, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada. This outbreak, which has affected individuals in several provinces, appears to be nearing its end, with the agency reporting that the majority of cases have been resolved.

The outbreak spanned from mid-April to early August, with the majority of confirmed cases located in Alberta, which accounted for 69 cases. Ontario followed with 19 cases, while Manitoba and British Columbia reported one case each. Among the reported cases, 10 individuals were hospitalized due to the severity of their symptoms.

Health officials identified that many of those affected reported consuming the contaminated meats in prepared sandwiches or from deli counters where the implicated products were available. As a precautionary measure, over 65 products linked to the outbreak have been recalled to prevent further illness.

The Public Health Agency continues to monitor the situation and urges consumers to remain vigilant regarding food safety practices. The agency’s findings emphasize the importance of proper food handling and preparation to avoid such outbreaks in the future.

This report, originally published on September 16, 2025, underscores the impact of foodborne illnesses on public health and the necessity for swift action in response to outbreaks. As the situation develops, public health officials remain committed to keeping the public informed and safe.
