The iconic helmet was stolen from the BC Sports Hall of Fame at BC Place on September 3, 2023, where it was on loan from Moore’s family as part of a tribute exhibit.

This theft, which involved a helmet worn during Moore’s 1998 victory at the Rio 400 in Brazil, has sent ripples through the sports community. The suspect was arrested on September 12, 2023, for theft over $5,000 and possession of stolen property. However, he has yet to be formally charged and is scheduled to appear in court on November 19, 2023.
