Winnipeg Police Arrest Parole Violator After Assault on Elderly Couple

BREAKING: Winnipeg Police have apprehended a man on parole suspension following a violent assault on an elderly couple in the city’s West End. The incident unfolded on September 20, 2023, around 6:32 p.m., when officers responded to reports of a man running into traffic on the 300 block of Elgin Avenue.
Witnesses reported that the suspect, identified as Nathan Droy Paul, 28, launched a brutal attack on an 80-year-old woman and an 85-year-old man who were walking nearby. Authorities allege Paul shoved the woman to the ground before delivering a series of punches and stomps. When the man tried to intervene, he was also struck, leading to both victims being beaten while on the ground.
The couple was rushed to the hospital, where one victim was reported in unstable condition and the other in stable condition, both suffering serious but non-life-threatening injuries. This shocking assault has left the community reeling, highlighting the urgent need for safety measures for vulnerable pedestrians.
Police arrived on the scene just minutes later, at 6:37 p.m., and followed the suspect into a nearby residence. Paul allegedly resisted arrest, prompting officers to deploy multiple Conducted Energy Weapons (tasers) before he was finally subdued and taken into custody.
Paul now faces multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated assault and resisting a peace officer, in addition to a warrant for apprehension and suspension of his parole. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
This brutal attack has sparked concern among residents in Winnipeg, with many calling for increased protection for the elderly and vulnerable populations in the area. Authorities are urging anyone with further information about the incident to come forward.
