Langley’s DRIVE Gala Set to Transform Child Advocacy Support
URGENT UPDATE: The Langley Community Health & Hospital Foundation is gearing up for its highly anticipated DRIVE Gala on October 4, 2023, at Mercedes-Benz Langley. This year’s gala aims to raise crucial funds to establish Langley’s very first Child and Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC), a critical resource designed to support children and youth facing abuse.
This annual event, now in its 34th year, will combine the thrill of Formula One racing with community philanthropy. Guests can look forward to an exhilarating evening featuring a Formula One-inspired bar, a Mediterranean three-course dinner, and a custom candy station. With live and silent auctions, attendees will have the chance to win a trip for two anywhere WestJet flies. Music will be provided by DJ Lucas Pardy, complemented by stunning aerial performances from Blink Acro.
“We are not just raising funds; we are uniting our donor community and partners to create a sanctuary for children who have suffered unimaginable trauma,” explained Heather Scott, Executive Director of the Foundation. This gala comes at a critical time as statistics reveal that in British Columbia, one in three children experiences some form of abuse. Alarmingly, out of over 22,000 potential victims in the Langley community, only about 2,000 report their abuse, with even fewer receiving necessary support.
The CYAC, spearheaded by the Langley-based Encompass Support Services Society, will close a significant gap in local services. Utilizing a “Circle of Care” approach, the centre will bring together essential professionals including family development workers, RCMP liaisons, and Indigenous counselors to cater to each child’s specific needs. This collaborative strategy ensures that young individuals only need to share their stories once, in a safe, supportive environment, while professionals gather essential information for investigation and care.
“Every child deserves to be heard, believed, and supported. With the Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, we’re creating a place where this can finally happen in Langley,” added Scott.
Last year’s Electric Gala successfully raised over $315,000 with the support of 344 guests to enhance imaging equipment at Langley Memorial Hospital. This year, tickets for the DRIVE Gala are selling fast, with the first 88 single tickets priced at $300; after that, the price will rise to $325. Tables for eight are available at $2,400.
Tickets can be purchased now at LCHHFoundation.com/drive. Don’t miss out on the chance to contribute to a cause that is set to make a monumental difference in the lives of vulnerable children in Langley.
