Crystal Lake Central and Huntley Secure Wins in FVC Soccer Action

Boys soccer teams from Crystal Lake Central and Huntley celebrated victories in the Fox Valley Conference (FVC) matches on September 26, 2023. Crystal Lake Central edged out Dundee-Crown with a score of 2-1, while Huntley secured a narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Lake South. These results highlight the competitive nature of the ongoing season.
In the match at Crystal Lake, the Tigers improved their record to 6 wins, 3 draws, and 3 losses, moving to 2-1 in the FVC. A standout performance came from Gavin Kane, who scored a crucial goal, while Chase Lemke showcased his skills in goal, making 11 saves to keep the Chargers at bay. This impressive defensive effort was key to the Tigers’ success.
Huntley’s victory was marked by a late goal from Tyler Murray, who found the net in the 76th minute with an assist from Allen Williams. The Red Raiders now stand at 6 wins, 0 draws, and 2 losses, maintaining a perfect record in the conference at 2-0. Goalkeeper Ethan Knaus contributed to the clean sheet with four saves.
In another notable match, Prairie Ridge and Hampshire battled to a scoreless draw after two overtime periods. Prairie Ridge’s Sam Kerley was instrumental in securing the shutout, stopping all eight shots he faced. This result leaves Prairie Ridge with a record of 7 wins, 2 draws, and 2 losses, and 2-0-1 in the FVC.
The Golden Eagles of Jacobs also achieved a victory, defeating Burlington Central 2-1 in Burlington. Meanwhile, McHenry triumphed over Cary-Grove with a close score of 1-0, improving their overall record to 8 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss, while Cary-Grove fell to 1-1 in conference play.
Outside of soccer, the girls volleyball scene saw Crystal Lake Central claim a decisive win against McHenry, with a final score of 25-21, 25-18. Freshman Jordyn Johnson was a standout player, contributing 10 kills and 13 digs, while her teammates Katie Piech and Tessa Popp provided additional support with 10 assists and 15 digs, respectively.
Prairie Ridge also enjoyed success in girls volleyball, overcoming Crystal Lake South with scores of 25-21, 25-20. Adeline Grider and Addison Smith were crucial to the Wolves’ performance, with Grider recording nine kills and Smith delivering 23 assists.
On the golf course, the Chicagoland Christian Conference Tournament saw Marian Central finish in fifth place, with Luca Kittel achieving a personal best of 77, placing eighth overall. The Eagles from Jacobs dominated in their match against Dundee-Crown, achieving a score of 153 to 190, with Chase Garden earning medalist honors with a score of 35.
In girls golf, Johnsburg triumphed over North Boone with a score of 185 to 254, showcasing their depth by taking the top six spots in the match. Lauren McQuiston led the way with a score of 43.
The excitement continued in girls flag football, where Crystal Lake Central emerged victorious against Dundee-Crown with a score of 31-14. Quarterback Ryleigh Smith led the Tigers’ offense with three touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown, helping Central improve to 5 wins and 5 losses overall.
Huntley maintained its strong performance by defeating Crystal Lake South 34-20, remaining unbeaten in conference play with an overall record of 11-4. Hampshire also celebrated a significant victory, overpowering Prairie Ridge 54-6.
In girls tennis, Crystal Lake Central secured a clean sweep against Jacobs, winning all matches, while Cary-Grove defeated Dundee-Crown 6-1. The tennis matches showcased the depth of talent in the conference, further adding to the competitive spirit of the season.
As these teams continue to compete, the excitement around the FVC remains palpable, with each match contributing to the unfolding narrative of the season.
