UPDATE: The Rutland Thunder have claimed victory in a thrilling finish, defeating the defending champions, the Kalamalka Lakers, 3-2 in the final of the 2025 OKGN Classic Senior Boys High School Soccer Tournament held on September 19 at MacDonald Park in Vernon. This intense match showcased the skill and determination of both teams, capturing the attention of local soccer fans.
The Thunder’s victory marks a significant upset against the Lakers, who were not only the tournament hosts but also the reigning champions of the Okanagan Valley AA senior boys division. “It was an incredible game of soccer,” stated Lakers coach Jessie Bourgeois. “It could have gone either way.” The emotional stakes were high as both teams had dominated their preliminary rounds, setting the stage for a fierce showdown.
