Xiaomi Unveils Compelling iPad Mini Rival with 165Hz Display
Xiaomi has launched two new tablets, the Xiaomi Pad Mini and the REDMI Pad 2 Pro, targeting consumers seeking alternatives to Apple’s iPad. Both devices offer impressive features, positioning Xiaomi as a formidable player in the tablet market.
Xiaomi Pad Mini: A Strong Contender
Initially introduced in China as the REDMI K Pad in June 2023, the Xiaomi Pad Mini is now making its global debut. This compact device features an 8.8-inch 3K display with a remarkable 165Hz refresh rate, providing exceptionally smooth visuals. With a peak brightness of 700 nits, the display supports Dolby Vision and is certified by TUV Rheinland, ensuring comfort for long-term use.
Powering the Pad Mini is the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ chipset, which is also found in flagship smartphones like the Xiaomi 15T Pro. Users can expect performance enhancements with options for up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage, placing it ahead of competitors in its size category. The tablet is equipped with a 7,500mAh battery that supports 67W HyperCharge fast charging, along with 18W reverse charging functionality, allowing it to act as a power bank for other devices. The starting price for the 8GB/256GB configuration is set at $429.
REDMI Pad 2 Pro: Larger and Unique Features
For those seeking a larger option, the REDMI Pad 2 Pro offers a 12.1-inch 2.5K display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 600 nits brightness. This model also features support for Dolby Vision and includes a distinctive Matte Glass Version that utilizes an AG nano-texture coating to reduce glare by up to 97%, making it suitable for outdoor reading or work.
The REDMI Pad 2 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor, with configurations offering up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. While it may not match the processing power of the Pad Mini, it remains capable for everyday tasks. The device boasts an impressive 12,000mAh battery that ensures extended use, along with support for 33W fast charging and 27W reverse charging capabilities.
Xiaomi has made the REDMI Pad 2 Pro available in three variants: a standard Wi-Fi model, a 5G version, and the premium Matte Glass edition. Pricing starts at €299.9 for the 6GB/128GB Wi-Fi model, offering a competitive alternative to tablets like Apple’s iPad Pro. The 5G and Matte Glass versions are priced at €379.99.
These new offerings from Xiaomi indicate the company’s commitment to expanding its product range in the tablet market, appealing to consumers who prefer Android devices while providing robust specifications at attractive price points.
