Princeton Girls Shine with Historic Finish at Three Rivers Meet

UPDATE: In a thrilling display of determination, the Princeton girls cross country team secured a remarkable second place at the Three Rivers Conference Meet held at Zearing Park on October 3, 2023. This finish ties their best conference result since 2019, underscoring the team’s impressive progression this season.
Sherrard dominated the meet, finishing first with 56 points, propelled by individual champion Anna Churchill, who clocked an impressive time of 19:50. The fierce competition saw Princeton close behind with 59 points, thanks to standout performances from Ruby Acker and Payton Frueh, who finished third and fifth respectively, with times of 20:47 and 21:09.
Acker’s achievement is particularly noteworthy; her third-place finish matches the best by a Princeton girl at the conference meet, previously held by Zoe Mead in 2013 and Lexi Bohms in 2021-22. Coach Pat Hodge celebrated the team’s performance, calling it a fitting “one for the books,” a nod to this week’s homecoming theme.
The boys’ team faced challenges, finishing seventh with 180 points while Sherrard took home the boys’ title with 39 points. Augustus Swanson led Princeton’s boys, placing 20th with a time of 18:38.
In other local sports news, the St. Bede boys placed third in the Tri-County Conference Meet, with RJ Hermosillo finishing sixth in a time of 18:52.3. The girls’ team also made waves, with Jemma Finley securing fourth place.
In volleyball, the Newman team narrowly defeated Princeton in a three-set match, highlighting the competitive spirit within the conference.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on the Princeton teams to see how they build on this momentum. Fans and supporters are encouraged to follow their journey as they aim for even greater heights in upcoming meets.
