The government of British Columbia has announced a significant investment of $220 million to construct a new high school in Langford, designed to accommodate up to 2,000 students. The project is set to commence construction in 2027 at a site located at 2460 Gateway Rd, with the province aiming for the school to open its doors by 2029 or 2030.

Lisa Beare, the Minister of Education and Childcare, emphasized the necessity of this development, stating, “Langford is a vibrant and fast-growing community, and we’re excited to announce a new school to help meet that growth.” During her address on October 1, 2025, she highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring that local families have adequate educational resources for the future.

The new school will adhere to high environmental standards, reflecting a commitment to sustainability. Features will include modern science and computer labs, a theatre, a gymnasium, and a parking area equipped with electric vehicle charging stations. The design aims to provide students with diverse learning opportunities, allowing them to explore various electives such as art, music, drama, technology, trades, and business courses.

In a statement, Ravi Parmar, MLA for Langford-Highlands, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “Promise made, promise kept. We’re delivering a brand-new 2,000-seat secondary school for Langford, the largest investment in education our community has ever seen.” This announcement follows the recent opening of a new elementary school in Langford in August, indicating the province’s ongoing commitment to expanding educational infrastructure in the area.

The establishment of this high school is not only a response to the growing population in Langford but also a proactive measure to equip students with the necessary skills for their future. The province’s investment signals a recognition of the importance of accessible, high-quality education in fostering community development and supporting families.
