Okanagan Sun Targets Perfect Season in High-Stakes Finale

UPDATE: The Okanagan Sun’s pursuit of a third perfect season in four years is at stake as they prepare for a crucial matchup against the winless Kamloops Broncos on Saturday, October 4, 2023. The game is set to kick off at 6 p.m. at Hillside Stadium.
With an impressive record of 9-0, the Sun are dominating the BC Football Conference, having scored a staggering 468 points while allowing just 90. In contrast, the Broncos are struggling with a total of 59 points scored and 439 points against this season. The last encounter between these teams saw the Sun crush the Broncos 70-3 in late August.
Despite the disparity in records, Okanagan head coach Travis Miller insists his team will remain focused. “We are going to approach it like it’s any other game, as their record doesn’t impact our preparation,” Miller stated. “The thing that I feel sets us apart from other teams is our preparation.”
On the offensive front, running back Gerren Hardisty has already surpassed 1,000 rushing yards, leading a formidable ground attack that averages 166.9 yards per game. Defensively, Jaquintis Summers is making waves in the CJFL record books, with his 12 sacks placing him tied for the eighth-most in a single season. Just 1.5 more sacks would push him into fourth place all-time. Teammate Jarveon Williams is also making an impact with 10 sacks.
Looking ahead, regardless of Saturday’s outcome, the Sun are set to host the fourth-seeded Vancouver Island Raiders in the BCFC semifinals on Saturday, October 11, 2023, at 1 p.m.. The other semifinal will feature the Westshore Rebels (7-3) facing off against the Prince George Kodiaks (5-3-1).
This developing story is not just about a game; it’s about legacy, determination, and the pursuit of excellence. The pressure is on as the Okanagan Sun look to finish strong and secure their place in playoff history.
