Metro Vancouver Welcomes DreadWorlds: A New Haunted Experience

In a thrilling addition to the Halloween landscape, Metro Vancouver’s largest haunted attraction, DreadWorlds: Realm of Horror, has opened its doors in Langley. This immersive experience spans 14,000 square feet and offers visitors a unique journey designed to engage all five senses. The attraction officially launched on October 3, 2023, and will run through to November 1, 2023.
Adrian and Christine Holloway, who have a lifelong passion for Halloween, have taken their love for elaborate spooky attractions to a new level. The couple, who grew up in “haunt families,” started their journey by transforming backyards into haunted graveyards. Now, alongside their children, they are instrumental in DreadWorlds, which promises to deliver an experience unlike anything previously seen in the region.
A Family-Oriented Production with Professional Touches
DreadWorlds is described as a full-scale production that combines the grandeur of a movie set with the warmth of a family gathering. Visitors can expect a 60-minute journey featuring immersive sets, midway games, and live performances, all crafted by a team of professional actors and award-winning costume designers. The creators have emphasized accessibility by offering different fright levels, indicated by colored wristbands—red for full contact, yellow for mild scares, and green for a no-contact experience. Moreover, those who feel overwhelmed can use the safe word “Lumina” to pause the action.
For Adrian Holloway, the most gratifying aspect of this project is the community it fosters. “We mentor our actors, we watch them grow, and by the end of the season, it feels like family,” he shared. This familial spirit extends beyond the actors as the Holloways aim to contribute positively to their local community.
Josh Burns, who leads the Caravan of Curiosities, adds an extra layer of excitement with high-energy circus performances. “I started as a performer myself, but now the most rewarding part is creating opportunities for others,” he noted, illustrating the collaborative effort behind the attraction.
A Visionary Leader at the Helm
The visionary behind DreadWorlds is Alexander J. Baxter, founder and CEO. Drawing from his background in film and television, Baxter’s ambition was to create a haunt that envelops visitors in a world of fear that stimulates all senses—sight, sound, touch, smell, and even taste. Tickets are priced at $39.95 for adults, with various packages available for families, young adults, and groups, making it an affordable option during the Halloween season.
“Our goal is to create a haunted experience that’s immersive, terrifying, but also affordable,” Baxter emphasized. This commitment to accessibility reflects a broader aim to ensure that entertainment remains within reach for all.
DreadWorlds operates from Wednesday to Sunday, and organizers recommend purchasing tickets in advance through their website, dreadworlds.ca. Additionally, a special Halloween Night party is planned, featuring limited capacity for an exclusive experience.
As Adrian Holloway aptly puts it, “At the end of the day, it’s really fun to scare the crap out of people.” With a blend of creativity, community spirit, and professional execution, DreadWorlds is poised to become a seasonal highlight for thrill-seekers in Metro Vancouver.
